When you’re designing and developing for accessibility, performing manual testing using a screen reader is important to catch and fix accessibility issues that cannot be caught by automated accessibility testing tools. In this article, which is a modified, text-only excerpt from the Practical Accessibility course, we’re going to walk through the process of setting up your screen reader testing environment, from downloading virtualization software if you need it, to installing screen readers, and setting up keyboard configuration. We’ll also learn what screen reader and browser combinations are most relevant for your testing work.

Does Your Product Actually Need Dark Mode?, by Cristina Bunea, explores dark mode. I consider dark mode an accessibility feature, because in my perception, when working in a dark environment, like while on a train at night, dark mode is more pleasant to the eye. Of course, in a bright environment a bright screen again makes more sense. Therefore it should be possible to switch light mode and dark mode, or, let the operating system switch automatically.

Design Takes Time is another piece of iA´s background information about their new product, iA Presenter. This time it´s about the evolution of the iA Presenter icon, which I found very interesting to read. I appreciate iA´s openness and their decision to run a beta program for Presenter to get feedback.
