After a four-week forced break due to illness, I took part in the eighth run of the Westfalen Winter Bike Trophy in Neuenrade. To ease back into riding, I opted for the shorter 36 km route, which still had 676 meters of elevation. Neuenrade lies in the Sauerland region, known for its hills and quick elevation gains. Having grown up in the area – near Arnsberg, though not in Neuenrade – I’m well accustomed to the terrain. The weather was fine and even mild for the time of the year, the route was beautiful, and, like with all WWBT events, the catering was excellent and delivered with great care. A typical Sauerland viewAt the first checkpoint the comrades from the cycling club TUS Neuenrade Radsport were in great spirits, and well prepared for the riders. Thank you very much!Climb …… to see.The second checkpoint was at a local farm. Again a welcomed refreshment. From there it was only about 10 km to the finish.We could watch the cattle relaxing in their stable.It was the first deployment of my new Fairlight Secan 3.0, which I ride in a frame size 56 R with 650 B wheels and 2.2 inch Continental Race King tires. The ride is pretty comfortable with the big rubber and the bike itself is capable, efficient, and fast. Did I mention it is a joy to ride?
