GOV.UK Design Principles

In Paul Robert Lloyd´s Time team: Documenting decisions & marking milestones is a reference to the GOV.UK Design Principles.

The GOV.UK team made beautiful posters for each principle which can be downloaded from GitHub.

I find their principles insightful and truly design led. At first I thought I have favorites, like Start with user needs, Do less, and This is for everyone. But taking time looking at it, now I think each one plays a role to form a holistic space to guide behavior and decisions. I can imagine the team enjoyed working on the principles as well as building digital services. The work carried out by the GOV.UK design system team is outstanding in my view.

1. Start with user needs
2. Do less
3. Design with data
4. Do the hard work to make it simple
5. Iterate. Then iterate again
6. This is for everyone
7. Understand context
8. Build digital services, not websites
9. Be consistent, not uniform
10. Make things open: it makes things better
